About the CLEP Spanish Language Exam
The CLEP Spanish Language examination is designed to test a student’s skills and knowledge. The test measures skills as compare to that of students who have completed two to four semesters of college-level Spanish courses. Most colleges award credit for either two or four semesters of credit, depending on the student’s final score.
Overview
The test lasts for approximately 90 minutes, in which time a student must answer 90 questions; however, not all questions will be scored.
The test features three sections—a reading section and two listening sections—which measure the student’s comprehension of written and spoken Spanish.
Section I (15%)
Listening: Rejoinders
Listening and understanding of short conversations and exchanges.
Section II (25%)
Listening: Dialogues and Narratives
Listening and understanding of longer spoken stories or discussions.
Section III (60%)
Reading
Three-part reading comprehension including:
- Discrete sentences (vocabulary and sentence structure)
- Short passages (vocabulary and sentence structure)
- Long passages and other materials (reading comprehension)
